Meet the Candidate
Mr. Aceves began his legal career at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in 1997. During his time as a Deputy District Attorney, Mr. Aceves has garnered a stellar reputation amongst his peers, Superior Court Judges and opposing counsel. He is known for his intellect, thoroughness, fairness, and relentless pursuit of justice. He has worked hard to protect our community and has tried over 100 jury trials ranging from Domestic Violence, Child Molestation, Gang-related Murder, Rape, and Kidnapping. The Los Angeles County Bar Association rated him “well qualified” for the position while his opponent was rated “not qualified.”
Mr. Aceves has devoted the majority of his career as a prosecutor to fighting against crimes perpetrated against women and children. He is currently assigned to the Victim Impact Program, where he primarily handles the most serious of child molestation cases, as well as physical violence against women and children. He has also been in charge of a drug court program where first time low level drug offenders are provided the opportunity to attend a rehabilitant program to have their cases dismissed.
Mr. Aceves has used his vast trial experience to teach trial advocacy skills to prosecutors, attorneys, and law students. He has also been lecturing and instructing judges and lawyers regarding the American system of justice and how to become more effective in the courtroom. His focus is always on ensuring that those in a position of power truly understand the importance of treating everyone with dignity, respect and fairness.
Mr. Aceves was the first Deputy District Attorney elected to serve as President of the Mexican American Bar Association of Los Angeles County in 2007. During his long tenure on the board, he was instrumental in establishing the association’s first international chapter and an annual legal fair that provides free legal advice to residents of Los Angeles County.
Mr. Aceves is currently serving his third term as an elected official at the Whittier City School District Board of Education. As the current President of the school board he has helped transform the district by focusing on accountability, insisting on transparency and safety, all while ensuring a nurturing learning environment.
Mr. Aceves also serves on the PIH Health System Board of Directors, an integrated health delivery system serving the cities of Whittier, Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, Pico Rivera, Montebello, Hacienda Heights, and La Mirada. He is committed to ensuring that patients treated at the organization’s two hospitals and several clinics are provided with the highest quality medical care.
Mr. Aceves is married to his high school sweetheart. Together they are raising two beautiful children not far from where he and his wife grew up.
